New Evidence: The Real Reason Gaddafi Was Killed #CAPNews

  • Qaddafi was not killed for humanitarian purposes but for the oil and for money. His ideas of an African gold-backed currency were his major undoing.
  • The recent Hillary Clinton email leaks have opened a can of worms everywhere including in Africa. Wikileaks released an unclassified U.S. Department of State document emailed to Clinton, dated April 2, 2011. Sidney Blumenthal, the sender of the email confirmed what the world already suspected. Qaddafi was not killed for humanitarian purposes but for the oil and for money. His ideas of an African gold-backed currency were his major undoing.
In April 2011, then President of the World Bank, Robert Bruce Zoellick spoke at a panel discussion about how he hoped the World Bank would have some sort of role in the reconstruction of Libya along with other countries.
“Reconstruction now means (Ivory Coast), it now means Southern Sudan, it means Liberia, it means Sri Lanka, I hope it will mean Libya,” he said.
To the ordinary person, this was the World Bank hoping to come in to help a failing state but to Economist John Perkins, the World Bank was not to be considered as fulfilling its supposed mandate. It was in actual fact a U.S. bank together with its sibling, the IMF. The United States controls about 16% of the World Bank while the second largest member, Japan has a paltry 7%. The United States again has around 17% voting rights in the International Monetary Fund. His point was that these institutions were and still are extensions of the Western foreign policy.
“So, we might ask ourselves: What happens when a “rogue” country threatens to bring the banking system that benefits the corporatocracy to its knees?” he asked later saying the Western empire has a standing army (NATO) to violently protect its position.
Libya was the “rogue” nation but the question is: Just what did Gaddafi have in mind?
According to the IMF, Libya’s Central Bank is 100% state owned and in 2011, it was estimated to have 144 tons of gold in its vaults. Muammar Gaddafi’s plan was to introduce a gold-backed currency which he hoped African and Muslim nations would adopt. He felt it could rival the euro and the dollar, and rightly so too.
Sidney Blumenthal, in his email to Hillary Clinton confirmed, “Qaddafi's government holds 143 tons of gold, and a similar amount in silver. During late March, 2011 these stocks were moved to SABHA (south west in the direction of the Libyan border with Niger and Chad); taken from the vaults of the Libyan Central Bank in Tripoli.”
He went on to say the gold and silver was valued at $7 billion and was one of the reasons Nicolas Sarkozy embarked on a French attack of Libya.
“Sarkozy's plans are driven by the following issues:

    a. A desire to gain a greater share of Libya oil production,

    b. Increase French influence in North Africa,

    c. Improve his internal political situation in France,

    d. Provide the French military with an opportunity to reassert its position in the world,

    e. Address the concern of his advisors over Qaddafi's long term plans to supplant France as the dominant power in, Francophone Africa,” wrote Blumenthal.

If Qaddafi had succeeded, the United States of America and Europe would have been forced to buy oil and minerals in the gold backed currency thus tipping the scales. This was a horror the West dared not experience. The situation would have been a more lethal re-enactment of Saddam Hussein’s currency wars when he supported the new Euro currency at the expense of the United States Dollar. At this point, the U.S. was highly insecure about the effects of the new currency to its economy. Hussein’s decision to sell oil in the then new currency was a blow to the U.S. worsened by the proclamation that the dollar was the “currency of the enemy”. Currency wars have therefore been a fact of history with the Hussein situation being a peculiar intra-Western conflict that culminated in the Middle East instability promulgated by U.S. interventionist policies. That Qaddafi would be killed for planning to introduce an African currency to the fray is not surprising but that does not make it acceptable.
The leaked Clinton email has far-reaching implications on the fluid state of post-colonial relations with the West. If anything, it is an eye-opener. Where Africa seeks to build an independent economic structure, the West is seen to try and derail those plans so as to retain its primacy in world affairs.
With regard to the creation of a new currency, Ministry of Peace Founder, Dr James Thring said, “It’s one of those things that you have to plan almost in secret, because as soon as you say you’re going to change over from the dollar to something else, you’re going to be targeted.”
And Qaddafi was targeted. He may not have been the most democratic leader in the world but Libyan citizens had arguably the best way of life in Africa. His plan of action (without the human rights violations) should be a blueprint for African development.

Cleric suspended for taking selfies with ‘Kim Kardashian’ #CAPNews

A high-profile Pakistani cleric who posed for selfies with a controversial model famed for her suggestive photos has been suspended from a senior government committee, the country’s religious affairs ministry said, rebuking him for his behaviour.
Mufti Abdul Qavi was removed Wednesday from the country’s moon-sighting committee which decides when the ongoing holy month of Ramadan begins and ends, according to a notification issued by the ministry.
The suspension comes after he was widely ridiculed when social media starlet Qandeel Baloch — a deeply polarising figure in the conservative Muslim country — uploaded the pictures earlier this week along with a video of herself with the preacher, wearing his hat and pouting.
Mufti Abdul Qavi and Qandeel Baloch (Pakistan’s ‘Kim Kardashian’)

Baloch, a Kim Kardashian type figure who frequently posts semi-nude selfies, later called Qavi “a blot on the name of Islam” and accused him of inappropriate behaviour.
Qavi was also suspended as a member of the Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf opposition party, led by cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, a former socialite who became more religious after his retirement as a sportsman.
“Mufti Qavi’s fate will be decided after the opinion of the (National religious scholars) Council regarding his selfies and behaviour,” a spokesman for the ministry told Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper Wednesday.
Social media users expressed their amusement over the affair. “Qandeel Baloch for President,” said Urooj Zia on Facebook.
In the video which was uploaded on Baloch’s Facebook account, Qavi is seen saying he will guide the starlet on religious matters and she had agreed to become his student.
He has also said the meeting took place at her request and that she had apologised for the inconvenience caused by the episode.
But Baloch said the cleric had sought her number after the two had appeared on a TV panel together and that he had behaved inappropriately toward her.
“I thought I would expose him as he is in reality. He is a different person alone and different when he has his followers around him.
“He is a blot on the name of Islam. Who is he to claim to be a guardian of Islam?”
Though she is reviled by many and frequently subject to misogynist abuse online, Baloch has also won praise by some of the country’s youth for her forthright attitude.

Brexit likely, Leave ahead in UK referendum #CAPNews

Supporters of the Leave campaign celebrated as the result of the referendum came in [EPA]

Results of UK's EU referendum are close but the Remain campaign appears to be failing to pick up enough support.

The Leave camp has edged ahead in the UK where voters have gone to the polls in a referendum on whether the country should stay in the European Union.
With more than half of the UK's council votes counted on Friday morning, a Brexit is now looking more likely.
The Reuters news agency says the Leave camp has moved ahead to 51.3 percent, with the Remain vote just behind on 48.7 percent, with 171 of the 382 counting areas declared.
UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage already declared victory in a speech held in London.
"The dawn is breaking on an independent United Kingdom," Farage said to loud cheers at a Leave campaign party.
"I hope this victory brings down this failed project and leads us to a Europe of sovereign nation states, trading together, being friends together, cooperating together, and let's get rid of the flag, the anthem, Brussels and all that has gone wrong."
"Let June the 23rd go down in history as our Independence Day."
Farage went on to accuse Prime Minister David Cameron and former prime ministers Gordon Brown and Tony Blair of "irresponsible, open-door mass-immigration that has damaged the quality of life of ordinary, decent people in this country."
Farage said Prime Minister David Cameron, who campaigned for Remain, should resign "immediately" if the Leave camp win the referendum.
The British pound plunged to a 31-year low as results came in.
The figures delivered a deep shock to financial markets, overturning earlier anticipation of a narrow victory for Remain.
The pound initially soared as polls closed and two opinion surveys put Remain ahead and two leading supporters of the Leave campaign said it appeared the pro-EU side had won.
But it then suffered one of its biggest one-day falls in history, plummeting more than 10 percent in six hours, from about $1.50 to below $1.35 as results suggested a strong possibility the UK would vote to quit the bloc.

Australian company's workers kidnapped in Nigeria #CAPNews

Gunmen kill local driver and abduct seven men working for Australian mining giant Macmahon near Calabar.

Gunmen in southern Nigeria have killed a local driver and kidnapped two Nigerians, three Australians, a New Zealander and a South African working for an Australian mining company, officials said.
The abduction happened in the Akpabuyo district near the capital of Cross River state, Calabar, at about 7am on Wednesday, Nigerian police said on Thursday.
Those taken were believed to be workers with Australian mining and engineering giant Macmahon, which was contracted to cement company LafargeHolcim in the state, police commissioner Jimoh Ozi-Obeh told reporters.
"The police is currently working with the Nigerian Navy to ensure that the victims are released unharmed," he added.
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said they are working with Nigerian authorities to free their citizens.
"We are working with the authorities, local authorities, at the highest levels," Turnbull told reporters in Geelong, Australia.
"We don't know at this stage the identity of the kidnappers and families in Australia are notified of course.
"It is a very serious kidnapping, a very serious criminal assault, one person was killed and seven people have been kidnapped."
Irene Ugbo, a spokeswoman for Cross River state police, said no ransom demand had been received.
One witness to the abduction, who asked not to be identified, said the kidnappers took the men to a waiting boat.
LafargeHolcim spokeswoman Viola Graham-Douglas said the company was informed of the incident by Macmahon, which was "working with the security agencies to resolve the situation".
Macmahon has an $18m per year contract with the United Cement Company of Nigeria Ltd (UniCem) for quarrying operations at UniCem's cement manufacturing plant at Mfamosing, near Calabar.
UniCem is a joint venture between Franco-Swiss conglomerate LafargeHolcim and Flour Mills of Nigeria, according to the Australian firm's website.
Kidnapping for ransom has been a long-standing problem in southern Nigeria, particularly in the oil-producing delta region, where criminal gangs target wealthy Nigerians and expatriate workers.
Most are usually released after the payment of a ransom.

PISTORIUS HAS GIVEN TOO MANY VERSIONS OF WHAT HAPPENED’ #CAPNews

Kim Martin says she doesn’t believe Pistorius ever apologised for murdering Reeva Steenkamp.

JOHANNESBURG – Reeva Steenkamp’s cousin has told the High Court in Pretoria that she just wants the truth from Oscar Pistorius.
She says he has given too many versions about what happened on Valentine’s Day in 2013.
On the second occasion that she gives evidence, Kim Martin, was testifying in aggravation of sentence for the State this morning.
Pistorius will be sentenced again after the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) found him guilty of murder, and not culpable homicide.
Martin says she doesn’t believe Pistorius has ever apologised for murdering her cousin.
She’s also upset that he has done an interview that is due to be aired on television next week, saying he had the opportunity to give his version in court.
Martin says she was very close to Reeva Steenkamp and while she may have been close to Pistorius, she doesn’t believe that Reeva loved him.
The former athlete wept, rubbing his eyes as Martin dismissed the love between him and Steenkamp.

He claimed he thought she was an intruder when he fired four shots into a bathroom door.
A year later, he was found guilty of culpable homicide and handed a sentence of five years in prison by Judge Thokozile Masipa in the High Court in Pretoria.
In 2015, the Supreme Court of Appeal convicted Pistorius of murder following an appeal by the NPA.
Now, after spending less than a year behind bars, and the rest of the time under house arrest, Pistorius, now convicted of murder, must be sentenced again.
